R.E.M. are an iconic American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980, featuring Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass/keys), and Bill Berry (drums). Emerging from the alternative “college rock” scene, they achieved global acclaim with jangly melodies, cryptic lyrics, and evolving musical experimentation that spanned folk, pop, and chamber-rock influences—ultimately shaping the alt-rock genre.
Their landmark seventh album, Out of Time, was released on March 12, 1991, catapulting them from cult favorites to worldwide superstars. It featured mega-hits like “Losing My Religion” and “Shiny Happy People,” topped the US and UK charts, won three Grammy Awards, and has sold over 18 million copies globally.

This is the definitive tribute to one of the biggest sounds in rock and they’ve performed the songs of R.E.M. to thousands of people worldwide. R.E.M. built a towering back catalogue that reached from the addictive highs of Shiny Happy People down to the reflective darkness of Everybody Hurts, covering all else in between.
An early R.E.M. album loaned to Stipe’s lead vocalist, Richard Southern, worked its magic and convinced him to make a first visit to see R.E.M. in concert.

R.E.M. was one of the first alternative rock bands. Their signature was a changing and reactive sound, from a guitar driven, unforced and intuitive beginning, through the game changing Losing My Religion and then onwards.
