“No one said that it’d be painless.” True words spoken on the upcoming first single to dawn in the new age of Kid Kapichi. “This album is very introspective.” claims frontman Jack Wilson. It’s an incredibly vulnerable period for the band, full of huge change and personal growth. An album matched sonically by a slick, clean aesthetic with a mature feel, taking inspiration from their peers, many of whom they have already shared a stage with; Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Liam Gallagher, Madness, & Nothing But Thieves to name a few.
“It was a very cathartic experience recording this album” continues Jack. “Ben & George have decided to step away from the band, but they were such a key part of writing it, it was great having them in the studio still. We can’t wait to show the world what we’ve been working on”. Co-produced by Ben Beetham, and Mike Horner, who have a long-standing history of crafting some of the band’s catalogue, felt like the right move to polish off this incredibly personal body of work.
Finishing off another very successful festival season for the band, Kapichi will unveil the new lineup at their final warmup show this August. “Playing these types of intimate shows with this album feels like the right move, we love to get up close & personal with the fans to share this experience with them.” With new material and dates on the way, four become two, for now..
Line Up
The rock heavyweights from Hastings stamped their name firmly onto the hide of the UK rock scene in 2019. Peddling a unique mixture of explosive riffs, bone-crushing live shows, and ear worming melodies of the duel-lead vocals and guitar.
Renowned for their live ferocious live shows, on stage is where Kid Kapichi really come alive. Fronted by Jack Wilson & Ben Beetham (joint lead guitar/vocals), with the other half of their ear-shattering sound emanating from George Macdonald (drums) & Eddie Lewis (bass). Having shared the stage with the likes of Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Fidlar and Slaves; Kid Kapichi’s name is hot on the lips of the UK live music circuit.
Storming into 2019 with the aptly named titled track, ‘2019’ is a reflection of the current state of social and political affairs, and its impact on a voiceless generation. ‘2019’ was the first song to gain traction across the airwaves. Subsequent singles ‘Glitterati’ and ‘Death Dips’ received strong support Jack Saunders Indie Show and plays from Annie Mac, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, Tom Robinson and more. ‘Glitterati’ was BBC Radio 1’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’ and ‘Death Dips’ featured on the BBC Radio 1 playlist.
With momentum building, Kid Kapichi dropped their hotly anticipated EP ‘Sugar Tax’ in July 2019. In the latter part of the year, the band made their mark at Reading & Leeds Festivals, sold out headline shows in London and Brighton, and toured Europe with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes in the autumn.
In October 2020, Kid Kapichi announced their debut album ‘This Time Next Year’. The album subsequently was released on 5th February to great critical acclaim with four stars from NME and 8/10 from Gigwise. The album was entirely self-released and remarkably reached number 6 in the official UK Independent Album Chart, 22 in both the digital and physical chart and 17 in the album sales chart.
The Hastings-four-piece show no signs of slowing down, with the industry hot on their heels and with a busy touring schedule waiting to be unleashed post-covid.
