Born in London to Indian and Czech parents, Taz Modi is a composer and musician renowned for his evocative and immersive soundscapes that blend post-classical, jazz and electronic elements. He is best known as a founding member of Submotion Orchestra and for playing keyboards and hang drum with the Mercury-nominated instrumental act Portico Quartet. In addition to his ensemble work, Modi has established a compelling solo career. His debut album, Reclaimed Goods, was featured as one of The Guardian writer John Lewis's Top 10 Albums of 2019, leading to tours across the UK and Europe with his string trio. Modi's forthcoming album, Involuntary Memories, is set for release on 14th March 2025 via Sehnsucht Records / Kartel Label Group. The album delves into themes of memory, nostalgia, and their evolution over time, drawing inspiration from significant life events such as the birth of his child and his relocation to the Sussex countryside after years in urban settings. The compositions weave together expressive solo piano with prepared piano textures, subtle electronica, and delicate string arrangements.
