Honeyblood’s third album sees Stina Tweeddale finding her most ambitious form and steely focus yet. Three albums in she has stepped forward to finally claim the mantle of the project she birthed seven years ago as a her sole vision. Stina takes the reigns in collaboration with none-other than super-producer John Congleton (Angel Olsen, St Vincent) for the most definitive Honeyblood LP to date, consolidating the Glasgow-born band as one of the most important UK names.

On lead single, ‘The Third Degree’ (out today) Stina’s arguably perfected the fine art of the punk-rock ode-to-the-shit-head-ex. But ‘In Plain Sight’ is as sonically gung-ho as peak era Garbage, or the modern day likes of St Vincent; big, bold, songwriting no longer content to be tied to one limited genre. Woven with mysterious themes of illusion and deception, Tweeddale describes the album as “one big trick”. Being hoodwinked never felt so exciting.

Following work with fellow Scots Young Fathers, Edinburgh-based director Rianne White collaborated with Stina to bring the vision of ‘The Third Degree’ to life - the brilliant video charts an encounter with the shit-head-ex in Stina’s native Glasgow and is peppered with vignettes inspired by the album’s theme of optical illusions. It’s out now and you can watch or listen here: https://ffm.to/thethirddegree

‘In Plain Sight; is out on 24th May 2019 via Marathon Artists and is available to pre-order now as download, CD and LP via www.honeyblood.co.uk

Line Up

Glasgow two-piece Honeyblood will be releasing their eponymous, debut LP, May 20th on FatCat Records. Comprised of just singer/guitarist Stina Tweeddale and drummer Shona McVicar, the band cut a unique and lean figure in 2014's rock'n'roll climate.

Recorded at legendary producer Peter Katis' Tarquin Studios (The National, Interpol) in just ten days last November, 'Honeyblood' is an accomplished and delightfully fierce record. "Peter was the perfect match for us," Stina said of the recording. "He perfectly managed to capture our live performance in the studio. These songs represent good times for us."

Despite their minimal setup, Honeyblood's songs are fully formed and perfectly assured. With nothing extraneous, their music is driven through tightly-bound instrumentals and laced with the sheer strength and beauty of Stina's voice. The songs resonate with deep melodic hooks and the kind of uncomplicated charm that've drawn contemporary comparisons to the likes of the Dum Dum Girls, as well as the strident delivery of Jenny Lewis. The band also tellingly cite the darker currents of The Breeders, PJ Harvey and Throwing Muses as lifelong influences.

From the urgent guitar and dive-bomb drums of opener 'Fall Forever', the album twists through the gutsy punk of 'Killer Bangs', to reveal discordant anthems like 'Super Rat'. It has pared down alt pop gems in the likes of 'Biro' and 'No Spare Key', but also more country/folk influenced moments like, '(I'd Rather Be) Anywhere But Here', 'Braid Burn Valley' and 'Bud'. 'Honeyblood' pulls in elements of lo-fi punk rock, unfettered indie pop and a deep seated passion for classic rootsy song crafting that help give the album something of an undeniable feel.

The band started from humble DIY beginnings, organizing their own guerrilla show at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow to commemorate the release of a raucous two-track cassette entitled, 'Thrift Shop', recorded in their bathroom with one mic. Honeyblood quickly ingrained themselves into the bustling Glaswegian scene, fast becoming one of its most talked-about names in town. They released debut limited 7-inch 'Bud' in late 2014, produced by Rory Attwell (Palma Violets, Veronica Falls) and supported the likes of Palma Violets and Sleigh Bells as well as playing festivals everywhere from Brighton's Great Escape to their native T In The Park. But with their debut US tour under their belts, big name supports slots with the likes of Real Estate, and the full-length ready to release, 2014 certainly looks to be the year with Honeyblood's name written all over it.

Formed on the 30th of January last year, FEET was really a distraction for its members from their endless bowls of pasta and lonely nights due to their poor game. The band then quickly projected from a boozy side project, to a realistic excuse to discuss dropping out of uni. With a European tour under the belt, seeing the likes of Luxembourg in all its glory, as well as a stop over to France. FEET are now back in the great Ol White, Red and Blue, looking to spread the love and Party or Die with Britons finest youths. With a small tour in some big city’s, FEET are looking to get the ball rolling and make it out of Coventry’s Uni campus.
